REFRESHER Course must be completed BEFORE Sep 18

Hello Woodbury Hockey Members -

We are writing to let you know about the changes that will be coming to the SafeSport Training this fall.   USA Hockey will be sending an email to all members regarding these changes as well - but we wanted to get the information to you as soon as possible as these changes do impact both first-time users as well as current certified members and they are set to take effect as soon as September 18.

SafeSport Training is a requirement for all our Coaches, Team Managers and those volunteers working as our Locker Room Monitors.  The current training consists of video segments and takes approx. 90 minutes to complete.  There is no cost to take the training.  SafeSport Training is valid for two seasons, and a Refesher Training (that takes only approx. 30 mins) is offered once the initial certification is completed.  We have always encouraged at least 1 member of each of our families to complete the training as it is informative and gives you the most opportunities to claim dibs and fulfill your volunteer hours.

The changes coming to the program come as the program shifts from the U.S. Olympic Committee to the U.S. Center for SafeSport.  The switchover date to the new platform is expected to take place September 18.   The change includes updated content and impacts the Refresher Training program for 2017-18.  Once the switchover to the new platform happens, any member requiring a Safesport Training certification for the 2017-18 Season will need to create a new account on the new training platform and complete the new (full) training with updated content.  The new training still is estimated to take approx. 90 minutes ( 3 -  30 minute courses); and will be valid for two seasons.  However the (shorter/condensed) Refresher Training will not be available for the 2017-18 season after the switchover.  Any member currently eligible for the SafeSport Refresher course MUST complete it BEFORE September 18.

Please note:  If you currently have a Safesport training certification that is valid for the 2017-18 season and if you need a copy of the certificate, you will need to print/save a copy BEFORE September 18.

USAHockey will be sending out email correspondence in the next few days to members that are currently eligible for the refresher course letting them know they need to complete it BEFORE September 18.   Additionally, USAHockey will be sending an email to all members regarding the changes and affirming that the SafeSport Training (and current Refresher Training) will still be valid for two seasons.

Example:   If person completed Refresher course for this 2017-18 season, they would have valid certificate for 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.  For 2019-20 season, person will have to complete the 3 new updated training courses  (valid for two seasons) before again being eligible to take a new refresher course (in the works).

Again, once the change is made to the new platform September 18, members who need to complete any training will have to complete the full SafeSport Training with 3 new courses.
