Signed Up to Coach? Next Steps For ROSTERED COACHES

In order to be properly rostered, all coaches must complete the following steps. Please note: Head Coaches & Assistant Coaches must be officially rostered on a Team before they can participate on ice. Steps 1-5 are required before a coach can be added to the roster (and prior to taking the ice with your team). Step 6 CEP is required by December 31, 2023 in order to continue coaching after that date.

1.  Register online at https://membership.usahockey.com/ to get your USA Hockey Number.

2.  Complete your (background) screening at https://www.usahockey.com/backgroundscreen

  • Beginning with the 2020-21, USA Hockey moved to a new national screening program - NCSI to provide this background screening.
  • All new screens submitted through the new NCSI national screening program after April 1, 2020, will be valid for two seasons.

3.  Complete your online age-specific training module(s) specific to the level of play you are coachingFind your module at https://www.usahockey.com/agespecificmodules.

4.  Complete your COACH CONCUSSION TRAINING & CERT.  According to Minnesota State Law, all coaches and officials must receive initial training regarding concussions. Minnesota Hockey requires coaches to participate in refresher every year. Each coach must complete and provide a certification and acknowledgement form to the association outlining the coach's understanding of his/her responsibilities related to concussion prevention and management prior to participating in any team activities.

5.  Complete the required USAHockey SafeSport Training - an online training/education that is available to help our members become aware of the information necessary to help prevent abuse from occurring in our sport.  http://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining

  • SafeSport Training is required for all adults that have regular contact with minors which, as explained more fully below, includes adult-aged players on the same team with minor athletes.
  • SafeSport is now required every year.
  • A person must first take the course known as “Core Center for SafeSport Training,” which is taken online and takes approximately 90 – 120 minutes to complete. After that a “Refresher Course” is available each subsequent year for a person that has completed the Core Center for SafeSport Training. The Refresher Course takes 30 minutes or less to complete. There is no cost to members of USA Hockey to complete either training course.
  • Training must be completed before a person begins having regular contact with minor athletes, or if they do not have regular contact with minors, no more than 45 days after beginning the role that requires them to complete training.

6.  Get certified - Find & Register for a Coaching Education Program (CEP) Clinic

  • CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE CEP# LOOK-UP and
  • follow this link to find a clinic:  http://www.usahockey.com/page/show/892976-coaching-clinics.
  • All coaches must have the required certification level by January 1 of the current season. All coaches must enter USA Hockey’s Coaching Education Program at Level 1, and must continue their education with a coaching clinic each year.  EXCEPTION: Coaches of 8U or younger players may remain at Level 1 or their current level. A coach may attend only one (1) certification clinic per year (not including age-specific requirements). Coaches who do not coach in continuous years must re-enter the program at the next level when they resume coaching responsibilities.

7. Submit your receipts for REIMBURSEMENT

  • All fees related to the above registrations, certifications and trainings will be reimbursed to you by WAHC.
  • Once you have completed all required registration, please email to Lonie/WAHC Administrator at administration@woodburyhockey.com to request reimbursement and include
