Player Waivers

The Woodbury Area Hockey Club welcomes all girls and boys that either live in or attend school in the ISD833 school boundary within Woodbury, Newport and Afton.

Minnesota Hockey Player Participation Rule - Defined

Refer to Section IV of the Minnesota Hockey Youth Rules and Regulations (link to Handbook below) for the types of and restrictions for Waivers.

See below for a summary interpretation of the rule and what it means for playing in the Woodbury Area Hockey Club.

A player's participation in a specific hockey association is determined by Minnesota Hockey's Participation Rule.  In general, youth hockey players must register and participate with the association whose boundaries incorporate the player's residence or the player's school.  Under the current rule, players have the option of essentially playing where they live or where they go to school - provided, in the case of the latter, that a School Attendance Waiver is on file (this is an automatic waiver).

WAHC is governed by USA Hockey and Minnesota Hockey, through an affiliation agreement .  In the affiliate agreements, Minnesota Hockey defines the geographical boundaries and jurisdiction of its member hockey associations including WAHC.  Minnesota Hockey has assigned only those parts of Woodbury, Newport and Afton that are in the ISD 833 school boundary to the Woodbury Area Hockey Club boundary.

If your current residential address is outside the ISD 833 school boundary for Woodbury, Newport and Afton you will need to get a waiver for your child to play with WAHC.  There are 2 different waivers available for these circumstances; one is a 1 Year Player Participation Waiver and the other is a School Attendance Waiver.  The School Attendance Waiver is for those players who reside outside of the WAHC boundaries but who attend a school that is within the WAHC boundaries and who desire to play for WAHC.

Both the 1 Year Participation Waiver and the School Attendance Waiver use the same form and require the same approval/signature process with only one difference.  The School Attendance Waiver is automatic and is required only once and at time of a change in schools, whereas the 1 Year Participation Waiver, as it's name suggests, is required every year.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Players waived into the WAHC for non-school attendance reasons are subject to WAHC waiver policies in accordance with MH governing documents (such as, may not be eligible for highest team, may be assigned to lowest team, etc.). See WAHC Blue Book for current Waiver policies. They shall remain members of their Home Association.
  • Players waived into WAHC for school attendance, without a change in resident address will be fully eligible at all except the highest team level/division for one year beginning with the first day of attendance in the new school with full eligibility thereafter except for (1) players enrolling in 9th Grade for the first time and (2) players living in the attendance area of the school; in both these instances, the players are immediately eligible to compete at any team level/division.
  • Notwithstanding the above, players that waiver in at the 15U, 16U or Junior Gold levels, whose home associations do not offer a 15UA, 16UA or Junior Gold A team will be able to make highest level team.

REQUESTING A WAIVER TO PLAY IN THE WAHC?

In order for your child to participate on ice with WAHC, we are asking that you do the following as soon as possible and before tryouts (if applicable):

(1)  Get a Waiver from the President of your home association.

Your home association should provide the Waiver form.  It is a quadruplicate form.  In some cases, a printed form in 4 copies may be presented; however please note that WAHC's District 8 Director prefers and recommends that the quadruplicate form be used whenever possible.

For School Attendance Waivers, please provide evidence of school enrollment (e.g. copy of recent grade report) along with the Waiver form.

(2)  Once the Waiver is completed and signed by your home association President, please contact the WAHC Administrator to arrange for delivery of the waiver forms to her (email administration@woodburyhockey.com).

(3)  The WAHC Administrator will next obtain the required signature of our President and then contact you/return the form to you to bring back to your home District - for signature by the Releasing District Director.

(4)  You will finally return the form back to the WAHC Administrator for approval/signature by the our District 8 Director - as the Receiving District.

(5)  4 Copies of the fully signed and approved Waiver form will be distributed as follows:

1.  Releasing Association (retained on file with player USAHockey# as player must first be claimed by their Association of Residence)

2.  Receiving Association.  The fully signed and approved Waiver form will be attached to the player's Team Roster for certification.  This is now done electronically.

3.  Releasing District Director

4.  Receiving District Director
