TEAM WEAR PROGRAM INFORMATION FOR 2009-10

WAHC would like to follow up on our announcement this summer of a new club apparel vendor Strauss Skates. Strauss was selected from a large number of vendors who were eager to do business with our club. As stated in that letter in the past Spirit Wear was used as a fundraiser for the club and while dollars were raised, the feedback from the membership is that the merchandise was expensive and that led to concerns about quality. Based on that feedback, the board decided to change the program and split it into Team Wear and Fan Wear.

The goal for the Team Wear side is to have a club wide team warm up suit and hat available for boys (Squirt, Pee Wee & Bantam) for girls (U14, U12 & U10) and Mites at cost. The club will no longer have a different team warm up by level. We will have a different team warm up for Boys, Girls & Mites. We will have club wide fitting days where you can take your player to this fitting to guarantee that you get the right size when you order. You will also be able to personalize and purchase additional items like stocking caps, gloves, sweatshirts, sweat pants, etc at time of ordering. As mentioned this summer, we believe that this is an important service to provide to our players. We think that our teams should proudly represent the club and the community in a quality and consistent warm up at tournaments and league games. We believe that this new approach will eliminate the instances of coaches and managers going out and developing their own warm ups. In the past the club discouraged this practice, but we feel it is important to send a clear message on what the expectations are. Starting this season there will be a zero tolerance policy for coaches and managers that go out and purchase unapproved team warm ups. Coaches, managers and members that engage in this activity will be suspended for 3 weeks and forfeit their volunteer hours.

On the Fan Wear side we will have all the items you have come to expect from sweatshirts, blankets, t-shirts, jackets, stocking caps, hats, etc. On this merchandise we will have a small mark up to help raise funds for the club. For information on the different Fan Wear options you can go to the website and look under the Fan Wear tab to see what is available. Coming soon will be a link to an updated online store where you can conveniently order items that way.

In the letter this summer we also discussed having a more consistent presence at the rink on weekends for selling merchandise. To that end we are proud to announce the Hockey Shop! This will serve as place you can go to see the merchandise, touch it and try on for your player or for yourself. For dates and times go to the Fan Wear tab on the website.

By supporting the Hockey Shop and buying online all of the profits go to supporting your hockey club and the programs that we offer. Keep your dollars in the club and buy at the Hockey Shop.

NEW APPAREL VENDOR FOR WAHC (JULY 09)

WAHC would like to announce some exciting new changes to the Spirit Wear Program for the upcoming 2009-10 season. We will have club wide fitting days where you can take your player to this fitting to guarantee that you get the right size when you order. You will also be able to personalize and purchase additional items like stocking caps, gloves, sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc at time of ordering.

We are in the process of updating the club policy for this area and this policy will be clearly spelled out in the blue book at the start of the season.

We will also have a more consistent presence at the rink on weekends for selling this merchandise and will also be upgrading our online store.

To do this and the Team Wear the board invited over 10 different vendors to participate in a process to bid for the club’s apparel business. We were looking for a vendor that we can partner with to help provide the service and quality that our members expect. At the end of this process the board voted among 4 finalists and the board unanimously voted for Strauss Skates to be the club’s primary apparel vendor. Strauss has been in business since 1887 and they have a great feel for the needs of youth hockey organizations and currently work with White Bear Lake, St. Paul Johnson, Tartan, Hill Murray and many more. We are very impressed with what they can do for our club.

We will also like your feedback and suggestions on what you would like to see the club sell. We will be posting options on the website and asking members for your ideas and comments.

We appreciate all of the support of our members to make this club what it is. We see the changes to Spirit Wear as an example of taking something good and making it better. With your continued support we will continue to prepare our club to evolve and enhance how it works for the membership.
